Mike and Carol in the early '80's.

In 1976 Mike's father bought him a
Citizens Band Radio (CB) to use while in the car.
CB's were becoming very popular and Carol's
family also was swept up in the craze.
Both of her parents became CBer's
and so did she.

Mike went a bit further though and became so involved in electronics that soon the CB was installed in Mike's bedroom and an antenna was mounted on the apartment building roof.
Soon after in Spring of 1979 Mike was "Elmered" in Amateur Radio (Ham) and became a Novice Class license holder.

In 1982 Carol and Mike's paths crossed on the CB and they have been together since!

Early in 2006 Mike had heart failure and let his Ham license expire. He almost did too, but Carol pulled him through it. Once feeling better and just back to work Mike decided to regain what he had lost.

On December 20th, 2007 Mike became a Ham again by passing his Technician class license and becoming KC2SPO. On January 8th, 2008 he received his original call of KA2FBL back. April 10th, 2008 saw Mike become a General class Ham and soon after becoming a ARRL & W5YI Volunteer Examiner (VE) as well as a ARRL Certified Educator. Finally, the cherry on the cake was when Mike was granted his Extra Class license on May 28th, 2008!

Carol, not wanting to be left out of the fun passed her Technician Class license with the call of KC2TJY on May 15TH, 2008. On the very same day Carol requested and was granted a change in her call to K3CWR. K=to tie her call to Mike's, 3=is her birthday, CWR=are her initials. On June 5th, 2008 Carol passed her General test. Soon after Carol became a ARRL & W5YI Volunteer Examiner (VE) as well as a ARRL Certified Educator.

May 5th, 2008 Carol (WQIS721) and Mike (WQIS720) were licensed in the GMRS radio service and joined the Yonkers Office of Emergency Management as Radio Operators.  Soon after Mike and Carol became members of the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services RACES Volunteer Radio Operators and Certified SKYWARN Spotters.

After they pass the test they trade the text book in for the next class of license book!

Text books cost $21 and the FCC exam is $14. Donate what you can. Every dollar helps!
